[ HONOLULU, HI.] The first show today on the last day of Honolulu Fashion Week was put on by Manaola. Which was Manaola Yap’s third time presenting his collection during this weekend, like how demanding was his schedule this week. On Thursday night I went to his first presentation this week and it was so massive and a lot of fun. Met a few peeps and my aunt introduced me to her close friend Allan B Cool who’s the creative designer of Manaola and the lead make-up artist for the shows.
After meeting Allan, he invited me backstage for the final show to see him beat and paint the models faces for the runway. Call time was at 8am and I thought that was early but Allan is from maui and had to catch his flight to the big island earlier than the sunrise. With three shows this week Allan was in charge of make-up for about 120 models and a few of the prime staff members of Manaola.
The theme in the make-up was mainly an even pale tone with a dramatic dark lip and a touch of gold-metallic flakes on the hairline to stand out. For the male models Allan kept it simple with a hint of a more lively colour on the face and slight noticeable eyeliner. A select few of the male models had paint and gold-metallic flakes on their chest and arms. The beauty line used was MAC cosmetics and Manaola even had a MAC trainer on site to assist under the supervision of Allan B Cool. It was a good time backstage getting to know the team as my body transitioned to being completely awake. We even did a mannequin challenge for Honolulu Magazine and there were a few people [not the models] who couldn’t grasp the idea of not blinking or moving haha.
