[NEW YORK CITY.] Sadly, I arrived entirely late to see the actual presentation due to rush-hour traffic riding in a taxi-cab. No matter, I did manage to get a closer glimpse of the ‘TRANSHUMANISM’ effect afterwards. Marlon Gobel based his Summer Spring Collection around these three inspirations.:
- 1.: Human Augmentation through technology. (Stronger, Faster, Better)
- 2.: That Technology is fashion from the fabrics to the electronics we use.
- 3.: A “wearable device” can be anything from a water repellent fabric coat, eyewear that capture what your eyes miss, and to a hand held super computer you use to communicate and share your life.
When I received the invite and it said TRANSHUMANISM I had to step back and be like… wait what? The word itself was just mind blowing. So I knew that Gobel without a doubt had an amazing-innovative show prepared for us. Naturally, he didn’t come shy of my high expectations at all and I was melting over the Silver and Gold Crocodile Motorcycle Jackets from Look #1 and #13. The Navy Cashmere-knit shrug [Modeled by my husband Tarik Lakehal, I don’t care what anyone says] is a crucial must-have from Look #2. I’m not a fan of a double-breasted blazer however the red double-breasted blazer in look #11 caught me off guard with it’s tailored structure. His final mens look #15 the Cotton-Nylon Blend Zippered Formal Jacket with Gold Clasps hit my love button. KNOX gloves was also a notable mention in this collaboration and Bombs & Bottles did another great job with creating music for Marlon Gobel’s show. I liked how the presentation was different from any other runways we’re accustom to seeing. The fact that Gobel is always experimental and inventive with his designs shows that he’s here to break down barriers and become a true pioneer and drastically revolutionize the menswear industry.
