[NEW YORK, NY.] Love Thy Neighbor, But Dress Like Yourself – was the main mantra for the Descendant of Thieves Fall-Winter 2019 Collection. The brand was formed back in 2009 by Matteo Maniatty and Dres Ladro who were selected to participate in NYMD [New York Men’s Day] that initiated this season of New York Fashion Week: Men’s. The brand’s name is clever, which was influenced by Dres Ladro, translate his surname from Italiano to English, which means thief. What makes this brand special is the limited batch manufacturing and isn’t built to mass produce like major fast-fashion brands.
In recent years, the world of trendy-fashion has forgotten the idea of individualism. A sense of personal style hasn’t been celebrated or recognized and because of that there’s instagram parody accounts that hold in derision to the midtown uniform or any cult-like styles that don’t support being yourself.
Descendant of Thieves showed complete looks that were singular to the entire collection. Yes, it was cohesive in a way that any person could recognize that each piece belonged to one specific brand, yet, not one look mirrored another. A look that spoke volumes to individuality was the puffy-coat-inspired mustard pant that was paired with layers of wool outer jackets. As simple as menswear garments can be, Ladro has purloined the craftiness of tailoring and styling to work in his favour.
