[NEW YORK CITY.] The first show that comes to mind when I get excited to attend New York Mens Week is definitely Ovadia & Sons, simply because they have been consistent in delivering a collection that puts words into your mouth and fantasies into your dreams. Within the first two looks, I got a sense of Michael Jackson’s The Way You Make Me Feel MV take on the collection. Especially in the 2nd look with the white crew neck, the open button-up shirt tucked in with a white sash-string tied around the waist. In seasons past, I’ve been taught to expect tailored suits, and crisp silhouettes on the runway. Yet, this time around the guys threw us a surprise with a nice relaxed motif throughout the presentation. A more classier and modern take on the unruly students that coexisted through detention in The Breakfast Club.
Each piece brought me to the realization that it’s okay to be unrestricted when going out dressed in the streets. It’s not always about putting yourself in just one category and remaining in that refined atmosphere. Yes, it’s a pleasant stay in a polished world – let’s just explore what else is out there and Shimon and Ariel did just that. The brothers went to find the stranger things and have added a flare of leopard print, earthy colours and a dash of bleach or perhaps a couple gallons of bleach. Still, a masterpiece of obsession was fostered. It’s only a matter of time until someone appoints these two as the next creative directors of some fashion house. What get’s me thinking is perhaps it’s time for them to go their separate ways and still keep the boy band alive and together with their own brand. Just have two other labels they manage separately.
To end this review I have to gab about the actual stage or runway. The flowers that draped from the ceiling were so immaculate, uhh breath taking Alliums I believe – I’m no flower expert. And the elite show goers were top of the line, I finally ran into Jenna Lyons and Andrew Rosen. Yeah, those fashion pokemons are hard to find. Anyways, you know the drill check them out.
